Bill Merrifield joined the Wake Forest Staff in July 2012. In his role as assistant athletic director, development, Merrifield wears several different hats. He is a major gift officer responsible for raising money for all aspects of the athletic department, serves as the baseball sport administrator and assists with the annual oversight and operation of the Deacon Club's highest giving level, the Moricle Society.

Before returning to the athletic department, Merrifield was employed at ISP Sports and IMG College. He was the first employee with ISP Sports, working for fellow Wake Forest graduate Ben Sutton.

A graduate of Wake Forest University, Merrifield played baseball for the Deacons before signing with the California Angels after his Junior year in 1983. He retired from professional baseball in 1988. After baseball, he worked in commercial real estate for a year and then returned to Wake Forest to finish his degree in 1991.

Merrifield and his wife Kissy reside in Advance, NC and have three children, Whit (University of South Carolina), Costner (2014 Wake Forest graduate) and Hite (2019 baseball commit to Wake Forest).
