Prior to her current position, she worked for Wake Forest Baptist Health, Cornerstone Health Care in High Point, N.C., and Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Originally from Lexington, N.C., she earned her associate's degree in medical assisting from King's College in Charlotte, N.C. in 2003.
Southern resides in Winston-Salem with her husband, Paul, and daughter, Bailey.

Ashley Southern joined the Demon Deacon staff as certified medical assistant in April, 2018. She currently serves as the department’s Clinic and Insurance Coordinator. As an experienced medical professional, she has an extensive background in family medicine.
Southern performs both clinical duties and insurance responsibilities in the Athletic Department's sports medicine clinic.
