Kristen Atwell joined Wake Forest Sports Properties' as Senior Director of Business Development in September of 2023 with LEARFIELD, the university's athletics multimedia rightsholder.
Kristen previously served with Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment as General Manager of Business Partnerships at William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA shortly after moving to Virginia in January of 2022. In her role with the Tribe, she was responsible for maintaining successful campus and athletics relationships, while also building new relationships and growing the partnership portfolio. Kristen played a heavy role in the 2022-2023 season by managing key relationships like exclusive campus-wide healthcare partner, VCU Health System and exclusive pouring rights partner, Pepsi Bottling Co. During her time in Eastern Virginia, she was involved in several organizations including the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Heritage Humane Society.
Prior to William & Mary, Kristen came from Miami University in Oxford, OH where she worked as the Director of Sponsorship Sales with Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment for two years. In her role at Miami, she was responsible for maintaining successful athletic partnerships, while also building new relationships in the department. Kristen played a part in diversifying the partnership portfolio at Miami by assisting with a multi-year cross campus and athletics initiative with a regional banking partner, Kemba Credit Union. In addition to her work in sponsorships, Kristen worked part-time with ESPN productions to provide in-game graphics during Miami men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball contests. During her time in Southwest Ohio, she was involved in several organizations including the Oxford Chamber of Commerce and Animal Adoption Foundation of Hamilton.
Prior to her time at Miami, Kristen spent two years with the Cincinnati Reds Minor League organization in Greeneville, TN where she served as General Manager. During her time in Greeneville, the organization broke the all-time single game attendance record and also drafted second baseman Jonathan India who was the Cincinnati Reds fifth pick in the first round of the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. Kristen also served on several boards, including the Greene County Sports Council and Greene County Chamber of Commerce, while serving as an active member of the Greene County Boys & Girls Club, Humane Society of Greeneville/Greene County, and United Way of Greene County.
Kristen’s background also includes a three-year full tuition career on the women’s basketball team at Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN after transferring from a full tuition opportunity at The University of Findlay in Findlay, OH. After graduation, she accepted a coaching position with the women’s basketball program and served as the Director of Operations. Upon completion of the United States of America Weightlifting program (USAW), she managed the sports performance and strength and conditioning for the women’s basketball and women’s soccer programs.
Kristen received her B.A. with a degree in Sports Management from Tusculum College and received her M.A. with a degree in Human Resource and Talent Development from Tusculum College. In efforts to build her knowledge of people and further service the mental health space in the workplace, she also completed an online Master’s Degree in Human Services Counseling with an emphasis in Life Coaching and Leadership from Liberty University in June of 2024.
A Wytheville, Virginia native, Kristen now resides in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
