Andrew Kovar joined the Wake Forest Athletic Communications staff in December of 2019 after spending the previous year and a half working in the Tennessee media relations office.

After joining as an Assistant Director, Kovar was elevated to Director, Athletic Communications in December of 2020 and as of August 2023 now serves as the Senior Director, Communications & Content Strategy.

In his Senior Director, Communications & Content Strategy role, he works as the primary contact for the Demon Deacon women's basketball while also serving as a secondary contact for the football program while also managing the photography and graphic design units.

During his first year working with the Deacs, the football and women's basketball social media account both saw a top-10 national increase in social media interactions per SkullSparks. The women's basketball account had a 409 percentage increase in year-over-year interactions from 2019 to 2020, which ranked first in the country. The football account had a 109 percentage increase in year-over-year interactions from 2019 to 2020. This mark ranked 10th in the country according to SkullSparks.

Additionally, the women's basketball Instagram account saw a 216 percent increase in followers in his first calendar year on campus, the highest among any Power-5 school during that period.

Prior to his arrival in Winston-Salem, Kovar served as an Assistant Director of Media Relations for the Tennessee athletic department. He was the primary media relations contact for the Tennessee volleyball, men's golf and women's golf programs.

In his first season on Rocky Top in 2018, the volleyball program experienced the largest single-season turnaround in program history en route to a run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the women’s golf program advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 14th time in program history and the men’s golf program tied the program record with three tournament wins.

In that first year, the volleyball Instagram page had a 215 percent growth rate, the largest rate in the country. The Lady Vols also had the most interacted with tweet in SEC volleyball history. During that period, the account experienced a 40 percent growth rate.

During his two seasons running the Tennessee volleyball Instagram account, it grew by 353 percent, going from 6,883 followers to 31,180 followers. 

While working at Florida, Kovar was the primary contact for the men’s golf and women’s golf programs while also serving as the secondary contact for the men’s basketball program. That year, the Gators were one of just 13 schools to have both golf programs advance to the NCAA Championships while the men’s basketball program advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

He served as the primary voice on social media for the Gator men’s basketball program, growing followers on the Twitter account by 5,664 and compiling 13.52 million impressions in the first two months.

Before heading to Florida, Kovar was a Sports Information Assistant at Union College in Schenectady, New York where he served as the primary contact for nine sports including the Division I women’s hockey program in addition to eight Division III sports.

There he grew followers on women’s hockey Twitter account by 20 percent and engagement by 759 percent in two months.

Kovar got his start in the business in 2015-16 when he was a Media Relations Assistant at Ohio University where he was the secondary contact for the men’s basketball program while also serving as a primary writer for OhioBobcats.com.

Kovar earned his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Ohio University in 2016. A native of suburban Chicago, Kovar is a lifelong fan of the Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks and Bulls.
