Spernoga also served as Wake Forest's field hockey athletic trainer for 14 seasons. During that stretch, the field hockey team went to eight straight NCAA Final Fours, won two Atlantic Coast Conference titles and three National Championships in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
A 1997 graduate of Penn State University, Spernoga earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine. Spernoga served as an athletic trainer with the football, women's basketball and baseball teams at Penn State.
Spernoga obtained his master's degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia in 1998. During his time at UVA, Spernoga was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Fork Union Military Academy where he worked with the football and basketball teams.
Spernoga is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, College Athletic Trainers' Society, Atlantic Coast Conference Sports Medicine Association and North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association.
Spernoga is active on the Wake Forest campus, serving as a member of the Athletic Staff Advisory Council while also representing the athletic department on the Wake Forest University Staff Advisory Council.
Scott and his wife Penny have two sons: Chase and Cole. The family resides in Lewisville.
