Mike Elkins, a four-year starting quarterback for the Demon Deacons from 1985-88 finished his career ranked first in Wake Forest history in total offense (7,170 yards) and passing yards (7,304), and second in pass completions (609) and touchdown passes (43). He ranks second in program history with 19 wins under center, trailing only Riley Skinner (25).
After his senior season in 1988, Elkins was named Second-Team All-ACC. He finished the season with 2,205 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and completed 58.9 percent of his passes and was named the Arnold Palmer Award recipient.
Elkins still remains ranked in the top 10 of 17 offensive categories in Wake Forest history.
After his time at Wake Forest, Elkins entered the 1989 NFL Draft and was the second quarterback taken (behind Troy Aikman). He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 32nd overall pick. Elkins played a total of three years in the NFL for the Chiefs, Browns and Oilers.
