Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame

- Induction:
- 2012
Childress is one of the most beloved Demon Deacon basketball players in school history. The 1994-95 basketball season will go down as one of the most exciting in school history and Childress will be remembered as the main reason for Wake Forest's success.
His sterling performance in the ACC Tournament, which included the game-winning jumper in overtime to beat North Carolina in the title game, will forever be etched in the memory of all Deacon fans. That last basket with only four seconds remaining was also significant because it broke the tournament record for total points. Childress ended the tournament with 107 points in three games, one better than Lennie Rosenbluth's mark which had stood for 38 years.
Childress' 2,208 career points rank second in school history behind only Dickie Hemric's total of 2,587. In addition, Childress is the school's all-time leader in three-point field goals and ranks fifth in ACC history with 329 three-point field goals made. Childress averaged in double figures all four seasons as a Deacon and finished with a career scoring average of 18.4 points per game.
As a senior, Childress was a second team All-America selection by the Associated Press and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He received his bachelor's degree from Wake Forest in 1995.
Childress was voted into the Hall of Fame several years ago but had to postpone his induction until 2012 while playing professional basketball overseas.
