WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Twenty-two games against teams that participate in the 1999 NCAA Baseball Championship, including a season-opening matchup with defending College World Series champion, highlight the 2000 Wake Forest baseball schedule, head coach George Greer announced.

"This schedule is certainly one of the more ambitious that we have undertaken in recent years," said Greer. "But to have a top-10 program you need to be willing to face some of the better clubs in the country. We're excited about the possibilities for next season and we look forward to opening the season on January 28th."

The Demon Deacons, who went 47-16 last season and captured their second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship, will open the season on January 28th against Miami in the ACC/Disney Baseball Blast at the Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. The matchup with the Hurricanes will be a rematch of the two teams that participated in the NCAA Super Regional at Coral Gables last spring and will represent the earliest starting date for the Deacs in the school's 109-year history of baseball.

The schedule also includes a trip to the Metrodome in Minneapolis for the Hormel Foods Classic on March 3-5.

A minimum of three games are already scheduled to be televised regionally next spring, with the possibility of even more games being added to the television schedule at a later date.
