Women's Tennis Nets Three In All-American Tournament

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team will have three representatives at the All-American Championships Oct. 21-24.

Junior Mariel Verban and sophomore Janet Bergman were selected into the 32-player main draw of the tournament.

Freshman Adria Engel made the main draw by advancing through the qualification tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday. Engel defeated Ana Paula Mores of LSU 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, Jennifer Heiser of Stanford 6-3, 7-5 and Tanja Magoc of Texas-El Paso 7-6, 6-1.

Verban enters as the tournament's second-seeded player. Bergman and Engel are unseeded. Bergman will be matched up with the tournament's top seed Zuzan Lesanarova of San Diego. That match is a rematch from last season's second round regional match in which the top-seeded Lesanarova eliminated Bergman 6-3, 7-5.
