WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest's trio of seniors - Anne Shropshire, Karli Schilling and Beth Klein - each scored a goal on "Senior Night" to lead the 11th-ranked Demon Deacons to a 5-0 victory over Louisville on Friday night at Spry Stadium before a crowd of 1,843.
With the victory, Wake Forest improved to 13-4 on the season, while Louisville dropped to 1-16.
The Deacons jumped on the scoreboard first just 1:21 into the game when Shropshire found the back of the net with a header off passes from Emily Taggart and Katie Johnson. Wake Forest's Joline Charlton increased the Demon Deacon lead to three with a pair of goals at 16:57 and 47:15. Schilling made the score 4-0 in the game's 76th minute when she scored from 10 yards out off passes from Lindsey Griffin and Liz McDowell.
Wake Forest's Klein capped off the scoring in the 88th minute. Klein, the Deacons starting goalkeeper, played the final 12 minutes of the game in the field and scored her first career goal on a penalty kick. Klein also teamed with Erin Regan to record the Demon Deacons' eighth shutout of the season.
Wake Forest outshot Louisville 37-5 in the game, but Cardinal goalkeepers Jordan Fredriksen and Lynn Clashman combined to make 13 saves in goal on the evening.
Wake Forest will return to action when the Deacons visit 3rd-ranked North Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final regular season game of the 1999 season. Louisville will visit NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
