
Wake Field Hockey Places Three On All-American Teams

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest field hockey team placed three players on the 1999 Astro Turf/NFHCA Division I All-America teams. While Wake Forest has had several regional All-Americans, these are the first Deacons to be named to the national All-America teams in the program's history.
Junior Jenny Everett was named to the first team. Everett led the team with 62 points and 27 goals scored.
Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Nitka was named to the second team. Nitka posted a record of 17-4 and had 6.5 shutouts. She allowed just 22 goals in 22 games for a goals against average of 1.12.
On the third team for Wake forest was senior Amy Marchell. Marchell dished out 15 assists on the season tying her with fellow senior Samantha Rush for the team lead. She also scored 39 points, good for third on the team, and 12 goals, good for fourth on the team.
Everett, Nitka, Marchell and sophomore Jennie Shelton were also named to the NFHCA South Regional All-America team.
The Deacons finished the season one win shy of the Final Four in Boston. They compiled a record of 18-4 and 2-2 in ACC play and were ranked as high as third in the national poll.
