Women's Soccer Earns Fourth-Straight NCAA Championship Bid

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team received its fourth consecutive invitation to the NCAA Championship playoffs Sunday evening with the announcement of the 48-team field for the 1999 tournament.
The Demon Deacons, who currently stand at 15-6 this season after advancing to the championship game of the ACC Tournament today, were one of 16 teams to earn a bye in the first round of the tournament. Wake Forest will host the winner of the Michigan/Wright State first round match (to be played this Wednesday) on Saturday at Spry Stadium.
"We're obviously excited to be in the NCAA Tournament again, and we're especially pleased to get a first round bye and be able to host a second-round match," Deacon coach Tony da Luz said after the announcement. "With four ACC teams in our bracket as well as a very talented Michigan team, we certainly have our work cut out for us."
Wake Forest is one of a NCAA-high six ACC schools to receive a bid to the tournament. North Carolina, Clemson, Virginia, Maryland and Duke also earned bids to the event.
