Women's Tennis Ranked No. 11 In Final Fall Rankings

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team is ranked 11th in the fall rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Deacons move up from last year's final ranking of 17th.
Individually for Wake Forest, freshman Adria Engel is ranked sixth in the nation after a strong fall season. She is followed by 1999 All-American Mariel Verban who is tied for 15th with Gabriela Lastra of Stanford. Janet Bergman, 1999 ACC Rookie of the Year, is ranked 34th, Jackie Houston is tied for 40th with Katja Kovac of Baylor, Bea Bielik is currently 65th and Maren Haus is ranked 69th in the nation.
The Deacons placed one doubles team in the rankings. The duo of Mariel Verban and Bea Bielik are currently tied for 23rd with Carolina Mayorga and Sara Witten of Kentucky.
The Wake Forest women's tennis team will begin the 2000 season January 21-23 when it participates in the ACC Indoors in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Deacons will once again play one of the toughest schedules in the country, facing nine teams ranked in the top 20, including ACC foes Duke (4th) and Florida State (19th).
