Deacs End Two-Game Skid with 2-0 Victory

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The 17th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons defeated Saint Joseph's, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Deacons. Wake Forest completed the regular season with a record of 10-8 and 1-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The game's first goal was scored with just over 12 minutes remaining in the game. Wake Forest's Nienke van Ruiten scored off a pass from Amy Marchell to give the Deacons the only goal they would need to defeat the Hawks.

Marchell then scored :30 seconds later to give Wake Forest a 2-0 lead on a penalty corner. Marchell was assisted on the play by Lisa Andries and Amanda Janney.

Goalie Meagan Nitka led the Deacons to their seventh shutout victory of the season.

Wake Forest will next take part in the ACC Tournament set to begin on Thursday, Nov. 5 on the campus of the University of Virginia. The Deacons will be seeded fourth in the tournament and play the fifth seed Duke at 2 p.m.
