Field Hockey Is Blanked by Maryland

WINSTON-SALEM, NC --- Wake Forest (4-5, 0-1 ACC) fell to Maryland (7-2, 1-0 ACC), 1-0, at Kentner Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Deacs and marked their first home loss of the year.

With 5:45 remaining in the game, the Terrapins' Megan Kelly scored the game's only goal off a pass from Caroline Walker. Deacons goalkeeper Meaghan Nitka (Holmdel, NJ) had 17 saves on the afternoon. Wake Forest had nine penalty corners compared to Maryland's five and was unable to take advantage of it.

Wake Forest will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against Radford. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start time at Kentner Stadium.
