Men's Golf Competes in Duke Classic

DURHAM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team recorded team scores of 293 and 305 in the first two rounds of the Duke Golf Classic to stand in a tie for 11th place out of 15 teams after the first day of play. The event is being contested on the 7,045-yard, par-72 course at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
The Demon Deacons stood in fourth place and just five shots off of the lead after a solid morning round, but struggled in the afternoon to drop to 11th. At 22-over par through 36 holes, they now stand 22 strokes back of the team leader, Northwestern, who shot even par in both of Sunday's rounds.
Senior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) shot a 72 in the morning round but followed with a 77 in the afternoon to stand in a five-way tie for 36th place at 5-over par. The individual leader, East Tennessee State's David Christensen, posted a 71 and a 70 in the first two rounds for a 3-under par score of 141.
Freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) and senior Juan Vizcaya (Madrid, Spain) both stand tied for 41st place at 6-over par, with Morgan shooting 73-77 and Vizcaya shooting 74-76 on the first day. Senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) carded a 76 and a 75 to stand 48th at 7-over par, while junior Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England) shot a 74 and a 78 to stand 54th at 8-over.
The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes of play on Monday.
