Top Seeds Advance at ACC Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Seven of the top eight seeded singles players
advanced to the round of 16 at the ACC Indoor Tennis Championships on Friday
afternoon at the Indoor Tennis Center just off the Wake Forest campus. The
doubles tournament was also reduced to four as the number one and two seeds
made their way into the semifinals.
Wake Forest's Raul Munoz knocked off eighth seeded Assaf Drori from North
Carolina in the second round by a score of 6-1, 5-7 and 6-3. Munoz will
battle Florida State's Davidson Kozlowski in the third round at
approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Munoz's doubles partner and the number two seed, Myles Clouston, staged off
elimination by defeating Clemson's Darren Knight in three sets: 3-6, 7-5 and
6-3. With Knight serving for match-point in the second set, Clouston
rallied to force a third and deciding set.
The tournament's top seeded duo form Wake Forest, Clouston and Munoz
advanced to the semifinals in doubles action by downing Tim Bibby and Romain
Goirault of Georgia Tech.
The doubles semifinal matches will feature three teams from Duke to go
along with the Wake Forest combo. Clouston and Munoz will face Andres
Pedroso and Marko Cerenko, while Porter Jones and Ted Rueger will battle
teammates Doug Root and Pedro Escudero. Both matches are slated to begin at
approximately 3 p.m.
The top seeded singles player, Brain Vahaly of Virginia made his way into
the "Sweet 16" by defeating Marko Gojanovic of Clemson in straight sets, 7-6
and 7-6. The nation's number two ranked player, Vahaly, will now take on
Duke's Marko Cerenko on Saturday morning.
The Blue Devils had six players to advance to the third round, while Wake
Forest, Florida State and Virginia sending two players each to the next round.
The tournament continues on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. with consolation
play. Bracket matches are scheduled to begin around 10 a.m. Admission is free.
