Volleyball Continues Hot Streak

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Leading two games to one, Wake Forest (13-4) held off UNC Charlotte (10-6) by a score of 17-15 in game four to win the match, 3-1, at Reynolds Gym on Tuesday night. It was the Deacons eighth win in their last 10 matches.
The Deacons had four players finished with double figure kills, led by Katie Horne's game high 20 kills. Horne also led Wake Forest with 21 digs. Also recording 20 plus digs was sophomore Julie Cowley with 21 to go along with 59 assists. Corie Miles and Sharon Harmsworth also finished the night with double figures in digs and kills.
The Deacons eased past the 49ers in game one and three winning by counts of 15-7 and 15-6. Game three went the way of UNC Charlotte, who rallied from a 12-7 defecit to win 15-13. Trailing 14-12 in game four, the Deacons stormed back to take the game and the match.
Three 49ers registered double-doubles, led by Christy Galvin's team-high 18 kills and 16 digs.
The Deacons return to Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday, Oct. 9. Wake Forest will take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta at 7:30 p.m.
