WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 29th-ranked Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Tennis Center. With the loss the Deacons record falls to 3-2. The match is part of the 1998 Wake Forest Invitational that also features teams from William & Mary, Northeast Louisiana, and Appalachian State.
Wake Forest missed an early opportunity to capture the doubles point. Following Michael Berger and Billy Gluck's easy win at No. 2, the Deacons' teams at Nos. 1 and 3 faltered.
Wake Forest's Johan Hansen and Berger were impressive in their respective singles matches. Lars Kabiersch battled at No. 1 with Aaron Marchetti (ranked 14th) before falling 6-3, 6-4. Raul Munoz dropped two sets after winning the first 6-1 at No. 6.
The Demon Deacons return to action tomorrow morning when they face William & Mary at 10:00 a.m. Northeast Louisiana and Appalachian State will also play at 10:00.
