Women Netters Win against Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. - Nineteenth-ranked Wake Forest won five straight singles matches and two out of three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over 33rd-ranked Georgia Tech in Atlantic Coast Conference women's tennis action Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in the Yellow Jackets' final home match of the season.
Wake Forest's Jackie Houston defeated Georgia Tech senior Xenia Uy, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Demon Deacons. Tech falls to 11-8 overall on the season and 2-5 in the ACC, while the Deacs' go to 10-9 overall and 4-1 in the ACC.
"We played well in spots," said Tech head coach Sue Hutchinson. "We just need to get over the hump of pulling out the match. We are right there. We just need to keep fighting and have the confidence that we can win the match."
Tech's only points came when senior Autumn Richards topped Caroline Ullring, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6 singles, and the tandem of junior Tamarra Jenkin and Bobbi Guthrie beat Wake's duo of Annemarie Milton and Caroline Ullring, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.
Seniors Sybi Parker, Autumn Richards, and Xenia Uy each played their final home match for the Yellow Jackets. All three are ranked in the top-10 in career singles and career doubles wins at Tech. Richards is ranked first in both catagories with 99 singles wins and 72 doubles wins.
The Yellow Jackets next match is away against Clemson at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in the season finale for both teams prior to the ACC Championships.
