RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State honored its three seniors - Kristen Gillespie, LySchale Jones and Kenyatta Williams - prior to tipoff and then defeated Wake Forest 75-72.
Wake Forest shot 55 percent in the first half, including 50 percent from behind the arc as the teams entered the lockerrooms tied at 37 apiece.
But the Demon Deacons couldn't contain Wolfpack center Summer Erb in the second half, as the 6-6 junior poured in 34 points, which tied her career-high, and grabbed 13 rebounds. The 6-6 junior hit 16 of 24 attempts from the field.
"She [Erb] kept her composure and didn't get frustrated at all," commented Wake Forest coach Charlene Curtis. "Both her and [Duke's] Michele VanGorp are definitely the two best post players in the league and likely Kodak All-Americans."
Senior guard Kenyatta Williams, playing in her final game in Reynolds Coliseum, contributed 12 points, four assists and three steals in 20 minutes of action.
NC State (16-10, 9-7) committed a season-low seven turnovers while scoring 23 points off 18 Wake Forest turnovers.
Wake Forest (7-19, 3-13) was led by Janae Whiteside who scored a career-high 18 points. Emon McMillian and Olivia Dardy contributed 15 and 14 each.
"We only had one day of preparation today and it was senior night so I think that resulted in us not being mentally there today," said Coach Kay Yow. "Thank goodness Summer came to play. I think you saw an ACC Player of Year performance today."
NC State will enter the ACC Tournament in Charlotte next weekend as the fifth seed and play fourth-seeded Clemson at 1:00 on Saturday.
