Women's Volleyball Falls to ACC Rival

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Maryland snapped Wake Forest's six-game win streak with a 3-1 victory over the Deacons at Reynolds Gym on Saturday night. The Terrapins improve to 6-5 on the year and 1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Wake Forest falls to 11-3 overall and evens up its record in the ACC at 1-1.
After playing so well, defensively on Friday night Wake Forest committed 12 service errors and five receiving errors against the Terrapins. Five Terrapins finished with double figures in kills, led by Beth Murphy's 20. Trailing 2-0, the Deacons rallied to force a fourth game, downing Maryland 15-12 in game three. Junior Sharon Harmswoth (Saskatchewan, Canada) was one of three Deacons to record a double-double. Harmsworth had a team-high 14 digs to go along with 16 kills. Junior Katie Horne (Nashua, NH) had 15 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore Julie Cowley (Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.) finished with 60 assists and 11 digs.
Wake Forest returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against in-state and conference rival Duke. Gametime is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
