WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest basketball player Loren Woods has decided to transfer at the conclusion of the spring semester, Demon Deacon head coach Dave Odom announced here today.
Woods, a 7'1 sophomore from St. Louis, is in the process of selecting another school and intends to have that decision made by the conclusion of semester exams, Odom said. Woods visited Seton Hall earlier this week and also plans to visit the University of Arizona, Odom added.
Woods started the first 14 games for the Deacons this past season before taking a leave of absence from the squad for seven contests. He returned to play in eight of the final nine games but saw his playing time reduced during the latter stages of the season.
For the year, Woods averaged 8.8 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game. He also led the Deacs in blocked shots with 50.
Woods was selected to the 1996 McDonald's All-America team as a senior at Cardinal Ritter High School in St. Louis. He was a member of the ACC "All Freshman" team in 1997 and was also named "Freshman All-American" by Basketball Times magazine after averaging 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as a first-year player.
