Volleyball Cruises Past Elon, 3-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest volleyball team (10-2) defeated Elon (3-8), 3-0, at Reynolds Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. It was the Deacons' 10th victory in their first 12 games of the season. The 10 wins ties the most wins in a season since the program was reinstated in 1996.
Led by freshman sensation Trina Maso de Moya (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) , the Deacons only allowed 15 points the entire match. Maso de Moya registered her seventh double-double of the season, recording 16 kills and 11 digs.
Game two saw Elon tie the game at 6-6, before Wake Forest rolled off five straight points to take control of the game. Elon's Fiona MacPherson had a team-high six kills for the Fightin' Christians, who had a hitting percentage of -.010.
Leading 7-1 in game three freshman Amber Rieg (Ellicot City, Md.) entered the game for the first time and then served the next eight points to give WFU a 15-1 win in game three.
The Deacons open Atlantic Coast Conference play this Friday, Sept. 25 in Reynolds Gym. Wake Forest will host Virginia at 7 p.m. in the first conference match of the season for both teams.
