Volleyball Rallies to Down Duke, 3-2

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Trailing two games to one, Wake Forest (12-3, 2-1 ACC) rallied to take games four and five and knock off conference rival Duke (6-7, 1-2 ACC), 3-2 at Reynolds Gym on Tuesday night. It was the Deacons third ACC win in the new era.
Five Deacons finished with double-double nights, including freshman Trina Maso de Moya, who recorded a career-high 24 kills and 31 digs. The Deacons set a school record with 104 kills, led by junior Katie Horne's 26, which tied the Wake Forest record for kills by an individual during a single match. Freshman Margaret Davidson registered 23 kills, four solo blocks and eight block assists. The Deacons also tied the WFU record for a single match with seven solo blocks and 26 block assists.
Sophomore Julie Cowley set the Wake Forest record for assists in a match with 81. It was the second time she has broken her own record this season.
Duke's Pam Gottfred recorded a triple-double with 11 kills, 64 assists and 21 digs.
It was defense that helped the Deacons come from behind to win as the Deacons recorded 20 total team blocks and had 108 digs.
"There was no quit in our team tonight," said head coach Mary Buczek.
Both the Blue Devils and Deacons will face Florida State next in Tallahassee. Wake Forest will take on the Seminoles on Friday, Oct. 2 beginning at 7 p.m. Duke will play the Seminoles on Saturday, Oct. 3 also at 7 p.m.
