Women's Tennis Upset by South Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The ninth-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team was upset by 21st-ranked South Carolina by a score of 5-4 Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons (2-4) led the match by a score of 4-2 after the completion of singles play on the strength of wins by Mariel Verban, Janet Bergman, Maren Haus and AnneMarie Milton.
Verban captured a win over Katarina Markovski at first singles by a score of 6-7, 6-1, 7-6. Bergman defeated Jennifer Radman at No. 3 singles in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 7-6. Haus picked up the win at No. 4 singles over Tamara Sutton by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Milton was a winner at No. 5 singles in straight sets over Leigh Eichelberger by a score of 6-3, 7-6.
The Gamecocks swept the doubles play to capture the match as Wake Forest had match point in both the first and third singles matches but was unable to hold on for a win.
