Women's Volleyball Tops East Carolina

RADFORD, Va. -- Outside Hitter Sharon Harmsworth tallied 12 kills in only 21 attempts to help lead Wake Forest to a 15-6, 15-8, 15-10 victory over East Carolina Saturday afternoon in women's volleyball action at a neutral site match in the Dedmon Center.
With the score tied at two in the first game, the Demon Deacons scored 13 of the next 17 points to win the game. Wake Forest had an outstanding hitting percentage of .476 in the first game.
The second game was much of the same as the Demon Deacons jumped out and took a commanding 9-3 lead. However, the Pirates rallied back to with in one point at 8-9 but could not get any close as Wake Forest won the next six point and won the game 15-8.
The Demon Deacons once again jumped out to an early 10-4 led in the third game only to watch ECU rally to with in two points at 10-8. Sara Kryder hit two services aces to put Wake Forest up by four before the Demon Deacons closed-out the game and match at 15-10.
Setter Julie Cowley recorded 31 assists in the winning effort.
Redshirt freshman Whitney Brawner was the only player in double figure kills for the Pirates with 10 in the losing cause.
