MINNEAPOLIS - The Wake Forest volleyball team captured its third straight victory with a 3-1 win over Missouri at the Nike Challenge in Minneapolis, MN on Friday night.
The Demon Deacons won the first game of the match 15-10, before the Tigers bounced back to take the second game by a count of 15-13. From that point on it was all Wake as the Deacons took the next two games by scores of 15-8 and 16-14 in the deciding fourth game.
Freshman outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya (Plantation, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) was one of four WFU players to finish with double figures in kills as she continued her strong play as she recorded team highs of 17 kills and 19 digs in the match. Joining her in double figure kills were Christy Kelley (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) with 12 kills and 13 digs, Sharon Harmsworth (Wadena, Saskatchewan), 11 kills, and Jessica Hood (Douglass, KS/Douglass), 10 kills. Julie Cowley also added 57 assists to the Deacon attack.
The Deacs will return to action tomorrow when they face host Minnesota at noon and Oregon at 5 in the Nike Challenge's final day.
