Verban Ranked Fourth In ITA Preseason Poll

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Mariel Verban, a junior on the Wake Forest women's tennis team, is ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) pre-season national rankings released today.
Verban's ranking is the highest ever for a Wake Forest women's tennis player. Verban was ranked as high as sixth last season before finishing the season 11th.
Sophomore Janet Bergman was ranked 34th in the poll. Bergman was ranked 41st in the final poll last year. The two freshman on this year's squad were also ranked in the poll, which lists the top 100 collegiate tennis players. Bea Bielik placed 76th and Adria Engel was ranked 83rd.
Wake Forest also had two doubles teams ranked by ITA. Verban and Bergman placed 30th, while Engel and Bielik tied for 50th.
