The Deacs came out flat in the first game, falling 15-3 to the Wolfpack, who have won only one conference match this season. Wake toughened up, however, and won the next three games by giving up only 15 total points to NC State.
Wake hit a mere .057 percentage in the first game, but improved that number to .435 by game four. The Deacs held NC State to a .000 hitting percentage in both third and fourth games. The Deacs took advantage of junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya's 20 kills. Sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips recorded a team-high 34 kills, while coming up strong on the defensive end as well. Phillips dug a match-high 16 balls. Freshman Sara Beth DeLisle also contributed 16 digs for the Deacs.
Charece Williams led the Wolfpack with 16 kills, but also recorded a match-high 12 errors. Williams chipped in a team-high 12 digs. Meredith Price proved a defensive force for NC State, adding 11 digs to the score sheet.
The Deacons improve to 13-6 overall and 4-4 in ACC play. Wake continues its road trip around the ACC with matches at Georgia Tech and Clemson October 20 and 21.
