Wake Volleyball Upends Clemson 3-1

Clemson, SC - The Wake Forest volleyball team knocked out Clemson 3-1 (15-9, 8-15, 15-9, 15-3) - the Deacons' first victory over the Tigers this season - in a Saturday evening match in Clemson.
The Deacons came out strongly, taking the first game 15-9, before giving up the equalizer to the Tigers in the second game. Wake stormed back to take a 2-1 game advantage over Clemson with a 15-9 third-game win. The Deacs crushed the Tigers in game four, giving up only three points to wrap up the team's 14th win of the season.
Five Deacons recorded double-figure kill totals. Senior middle blocker Jessica Hood topped the Wake stat sheet for the first time this season, registering 16 kills against only two errors. Junior middle blocker Margaret Davidson killed 14 balls, while freshman outside hitter Sara Beth DeLisle added 13 kills. Junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya and sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Maso de Moya continued to lead the Deacon defense, notching 17 digs. Davidson, who also was a part of five blocks in the match, and Phillips each added 11 digs for Wake Forest. Phillips totaled a match-high 53 assists in the contest.
On Clemson's side of the court, Kiki Dallao recorded a match-high 21 kills, while setter Jessi Betcher assisted on 52 balls. Meredith Kirtland and Lindsey Fuller manned the Tigers' defense, contributing 15 digs and six total blocks, respectively.
The Deacons improve their record to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in ACC play. Wake returns home for a three-match home stand against NC State, North Carolina and Duke. The Deacs take on the Wolfpack October 27 at 7:00 pm, the Tar Heels on October 28 at 7:00 pm, and will entertain the Duke Blue Devils in a Halloween match at 7:00 pm at Reynolds Gym.
