Deacs Stunned By Georgia Tech 3-0

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest volleyball team dropped its third match in a row, falling to visiting Georgia Tech 3-0 (6-15, 8-15, 10-15) at Reynolds Gym Wednesday evening. The match was the Deacs ACC home opener and marked Wake's first loss at home this season.
The Deacons were unable to sustain an offensive attack throughout the match, giving up 65 kills to the Yellow Jackets. Wake held a 6-3 lead in the first game, but gave up 12 unanswered points to Georgia Tech. The Deacs also fell behind 7-0 to begin the second game and, although Wake pulled to within four points at 9-5, Georgia Tech went on a scoring run to wrap up the game. The third game proved closer, with the Deacons trailing by only three at 13-10. It was not enough, as the Yellow Jackets wrapped up the match with a 15-10 third-game score.
Junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya led the Deacons with 18 kills and 25 digs - the eighth time this season she's recorded double figures in both. Senior middle blocker Jessica Hood chipped in with 12 kills against only two errors, while junior middle blocker Margaret Davidson added 10 kills for the Deacs. Sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips had a team-high 45 assists, while freshman outside hitter Ashley Fisher tallied a career-high 10 digs.
Two Yellow Jackets registered 17 kills in the match - Teryl Townsend and Enkeleida Mabry led Georgia Tech offensively. Ky Bell recorded 14 kills for the Jackets. Kele Eveland led the Georgia Tech defensive effort, tallying 14 digs. Bell and Amanda Hess added 13 digs, while Townsend and Maja Pachale recorded 12 apiece. Eveland, Georgia Tech' setter, topped all players with 47 assists.
Georgia Tech improves to 13-4, 4-1 in conference play. The Deacons, who fall to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in ACC play, will host Florida State in an ACC battle Friday October 6. Match time is set for 7:00 pm. Wake will face Clemson on October 7 in Reynolds Gym at 7:00 pm.
