WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team received a bid to the NCAA Tournament Sunday night. The Demon Deacons (10-7-2 overall), playing in their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament, will be vying for the national championship, along with the other 47 teams, Dec. 3 in San Jose, Calif. Wake Forest will host Liberty (15-6 overall) in the first round Wednesday, Nov, 8 at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the second round to play at North Carolina, who received a first-round bye.
"Under the circumstances I am very pleased," said Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz, who has guided to the Demon Deacons to the NCAA Tournament all four years he has been at Wake Forest. "After the way this season has went, with the injuries and illnesses, to keep the streak going of getting a bid the last five years is great and we are very happy. It is a great reward for the kids."
No. 22 Wake Forest, 10-7-2 overall, is coming off a 1-1 tie with Florida State, Nov. 2 at the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles advanced to the semifinals after beating the Demon Deacons 5-4 in the tiebreaker penalty kick shootout following the 1-1 double overtime tie. Six of the eight schools in the ACC that sponsor women's soccer received bids to the NCAA Tournament and they all are hosting first or second round sites. Wake Forest has never played against Liberty.
