WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Twenty-two high school prospects have officially accepted football scholarships to Wake Forest by signing a national letter-of-intent today, Demon Deacon head coach Jim Caldwell has announced.
The 2000 freshman class is one of the largest in Caldwell's tenure, as the Demon Deacons lost a total of 24 scholarship seniors from their 1999 Aloha Bowl Championship team. The signing class features 10 players who received all-region accolades from either SuperPrep or PrepStar recruiting magazine. The future Deacons hail from 10 different states.
"We lost a very large class of seniors who were instrumental in laying the foundation for success in our football program," Caldwell said. "Our staff was faced with the challenge of finding 25 players who would not simply fill out our roster, but would help us continue to build on that foundation. I feel without question that we have signed a quality group of young men who will have a tremendous impact on our program in the years to come."
