Wake Field Hockey Announces Signees

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey coaches announced the signing of seven recruits for the 2000 season.
Lucy Shaw comes to Wake Forest from British Columbia, Canada. Lucy is currently representing the Canadian Under 19 and Under 21 squads. She is a powerful player who will provide strength and experience to the backfield.
The next signee is Elizabeth Hill. she comes to Wake from Fort Worth, Texas. Hill has been playing as a forward in high school, but may be an effective midfield player for the Demon Deacons.
Katie Ackerman is the latest in a long line of players to come to Wake Forest from Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown, Pa. Katie is a very skillful midfield player who possesses a good game sense. For the 1999 season, she was named to the High School All-America Second Team.
Another Pennsylvania native, Emily Ruth, comes to Wake Forest from Robesonia, Pa. Emily is a strong player and a solid athlete who can play at back or midfield. The coaches say she is a player who plays with a lot of fire and heart.
Kelly Doton is a forward from Greenfield, Mass. Her field awareness allows her a lot of scoring opportunities. She could prove to be a real scoring threat for the Deacs.
The lone goalkeeper in the 2000 class is Katie Ridd. Ridd is from Fairfax, Va. She converted from soccer to field hockey. She is a quick player who has the potential to make an impact early in her time in Winston-Salem.
Allyson Hudson is another player from Virginia in this year's signing class. She is a speedy, athletic player who has been playing in the midfield. She has a lot of potential and could be a good defender for the Deacs.
The Wake Forest field hockey program is coming off its most successful season ever. The Deacs went 18-4 last year, were ranked as high as third nationally and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. With six returning starters from that team and this new group of signees, the Deacs look for another great season in 2000.
