Wake Women's Basketball Adds Two Signees

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest women's basketball coach Charlene Curtis announced the signing of two players to national letters of intent during the spring signing period. With the signings, the Demon Deacons' incoming freshman class for the 2000-01 season now totals four players. The Deacs' spring signees:
TRACY ALSTON (5-10, Forward, Raleigh, NC/Southeast Raleigh HS)
A USA Today Honorable Mention All-American, Alston helped lead Southeast Raleigh to the state 4A basketball title in 1999. She is a three-time all-conference honoree and a two-time conference MVP, and she was selected to play in the Carolinas All-Star Classic as well as the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game this year. As a senior, she averaged 23 points and nine rebounds per game, helping her team to a 22-6 overall record. The 1999-2000 Female Athlete of the Year at her high school, Alston is also a Dean's List student and a Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
TONIA BROWN (5-10, Guard, Roanoke, VA/William Fleming HS)
(pronounced Tah-NEE-ah) A product of Coach Charlene Curtis' own high school, Brown is a Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-America honoree. Coached by her mother, Cynthia, at William Fleming, she was the Roanoke Times Player of the Year and the Kiwanis Club Player of the Year for 1999-2000. As a senior, she led her team to a 13-5 record, averaging 17.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. Brown is a three-time all-state honoree, earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore and junior and second-team honors as a senior. She has earned all-region, all-Roanoke Times, and district player of the year honors in each of the past three seasons. Brown also competed in volleyball in high school.
