Wake Women's Tennis Falls In ACC Championship Final

NORCROSS, Ga. -- The top-seeded Wake Forest women's tennis team was defeated by the second-seeded Duke Blue Devils 5-3 in the finals of the ACC Championhsip at the Racquet Club of the South on Sunday.
The two teams split the six singles matches. Wake got wins at the Nos. 2,3 and 5 positions. Freshman Bea Bielik won at No. 2, defeating Kathy Sell 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Janet Bergman defeated Kate Granson 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. Jackie Houston got the Deacs third win of the day, defeating Hillary Adams 7-6 (2), 6-4 at No. 5.
The match was decided in doubles with Duke sweeping the Nos. 2 and 3 positions to gain the win.
With the loss, Wake drops to 21-2 overall. Wake was the regular season champion of the ACC, posting a perfect 8-0 conference record for the first time in school history. The win gives Duke its 13th-straight ACC Championship. The NCAA Regionals will be held May 13 and 14.
