WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest redshirt forward Niki Arinze will transfer from the University following the end of the spring semester, head coach Dave Odom announced today. Arinze, who has been saddled with injury since coming to Wake Forest in the fall of 1997, has yet to finalize his school choice for the next academic year.
"I have had a good experience at Wake, and have learned a lot, but in my judgment, transferring will help my development as a basketball player," said Arinze. "It is in my best interest to make a fresh start at another university."
"I am disappointed that things did not work out for Niki here at Wake Forest. He is a hard worker, a good student and a talented player," Odom said. "Our staff remains totally supportive of Niki and will help him in any way that he deems appropriate."
The forward averaged 5.4 points in 18 games for the Deacs this season after a shoulder injury forced him to redshirt the 1998-99 campaign. As a starter in his freshman season, Arinze averaged 7.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.
