Deacon Pitcher Ben Clayton Earns Postseason Honor

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest pitcher Ben Clayton, who posted a 7-2 record in 2000, was named third team Freshman All-America today by Baseball America.

Clayton, a lefthander from San Leandro (Calif.), appeared in 19 games for the Deacons, including 12 games as a starter. In 63.2 innings of action, Clayton surrendered 55 hits while striking out 66. Opponents batted just .233 against him in 2000.

Kevin Howard, an infielder from Miami (Fla.), was named the Freshman of the Year.
