Bryan?Ray Diary - August 11, 2000
Today felt like that movie, "Groundhog Day." In the movie, this guy wakes up and everything happens exactly the same way every day. That's what today felt like. We did everything today just like we did the day before.
The morning (6:45 a.m.) practice went well today, I thought. There was a little more enthusiasm today. The offense and defense got after each other a little today and that sparked a flame. The offense was trying to out-do us and the defense never wants to be outdone.
All I did between practices was sleep.
The afternoon session begins by watching tape from the morning practice. At practice, we're still in shells (helmets and shoulder pads), doing a lot of drills and fundamentals. We're putting in different schemes and even though some guys are slow to pick it up, they're at least hustling when they make a mistake.
Tomorrow is Photo Day at the stadium (1:15 p.m.). I think the players enjoy Photo Day, it's a nice break. There are usually a bunch of kids out there and I know that I enjoy making an impact on kids. I think it's great that they (the kids) get to talk to guys like C.J. Leak and the other players. We'll joke around most of the time.
We'll also practice at the stadium after Photo Day. I remember my first practice in the stadium five years ago. I was overwhelmed. Even though our stadium isn't the biggest in the world, I never though that I would actually get a chance to practice or play in a stadium that big. I guess some of the freshman will feel that way tomorrow.
