WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball squad demolished the visiting High Point Panthers 3-0 (15-5, 15-1, 15-7) and moved to 7-0 on the season.
The Deacs jumped out to an early lead, and never trailed in the three games. In the second game, Wake led 10-0 before giving up a point to the Panthers.
Wake was led by Margaret Davidson, who totaled 15 kills against only one error. She produced a match-high .700 attack percentage - a season-best number for the Deacs in 2000. Sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips set a match-high 30 balls and served up two aces in the match. Junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya collected five kills and five digs. Freshman Sara Beth DeLisle chipped in six kills and six digs.
The Deacons registered 44 kills in the three games, out hitting the Panthers by 25. The Wake defense also held High Point to a -.044 attack percentage, forcing 23 Panther errors. As a team, the Deacs recorded 45 digs, including a match-high 11 digs by freshman Katy De Roeck.
Freshman outside hitter Kamarsha Ryan and freshman setter Kristy Flint led High Point with four kills apiece. Flint also registered a team-high seven assists. Jessica Dollbaum, a senior outside hitter, led the Panther defense with seven digs.
Wake travels to the University of Florida Invitational September 15 and 16. The Deacs will face Pepperdine on Friday evening at 5:00 pm and will take on either Florida or Florida Atlantic on Saturday with a time yet to be determined.
