Bielik Advances At National Clay Court Championships

PIKESVILLE, Md. - Wake Forest's Bea Bielik (Valley Stream, NY) has advanced to the semifinals in both the singles and doubles brackets of the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships. The event, which is the first leg of the collegiate Grand Slam, is taking place this week at the Suburban Club of Baltimore County.

Bielik, a sophomore for the Deacs who is ranked 14th nationally, won two singles matches today to advance to Saturday's semifinal. In second-round action she topped Kavitha Krishnamurthy of Princeton, 6-2, 6-2. Later in the day she won 7-5, 6-3 over 26th-ranked Ipek Senoglu of Pepperdine.

Bielik and Wake junior Janet Bergman (Pinehurst, NC), the nation's fifth-ranked doubles tandem, will also make a semifinal appearance on Saturday. The duo won their quarterfinal match on Friday, easily defeating Rose/Faustinelli of Florida International, 6-1, 6-2.

Bergman, who also competed in singles on Friday, lost her second-round match to Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame (4-6, 6-3, 6-3), while junior Maren Haus (Brielle, NJ) also lost her second-round match to Pepperdine?s Senoglu, 6-1, 6-2.
