Maren Haus Advances To Sunday's Tennis Final

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Wake Forest junior Maren Haus advanced to Sunday's championship match in the top bracket of the Gamecock Classic here earlier today.

Haus defeated Kentucky's Brooke Skeen, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday, setting the stage for Sunday's final against North Carolina's Julie Rotondi. Haus is unbeaten in the three-day tournament, including a win over UNC's Cendrick Bunn on Friday.

Aimee Smith is the only other Wake Forest player who participated in the Gamecock Classic. Smith fell to South Carolina's Kathy Boyanovich, 6-3, 6-4 in the consolation bracket today, eliminating her from the tournament.

In doubles action, Haus and Smith went 1-1 on Saturday, defeating a team from the College of Charleston, 8-4, before losing in the fifth-place match to a team from North Carolina, 9-7.

Haus and Rotondi's championship match on Sunday will begin at 11 a.m.
