
Wake Stumbles At Davidson With 3-2 Loss

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team lost its second match in as many days, with a 3-2 (15-17, 15-12, 5-15, 15-9, 11-15) non-conference loss at Davidson Saturday evening.
Junior middle blocker Margaret Davidson picked up the slack for Wake Forest, playing without junior outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya. Davidson recorded a season-high (and only one shy of a career-high) 22 kills against only five errors. She also led the Deacs with seven total blocks, including two solo stops. Senior middle blocker Jessica Hood was also an offensive force for Wake, tallying 19 kills and a .390 hitting percentage.
Six Deacons stepped up defensively, picking up double figures in digs. Sophomore setter Ashlee Phillips recorded a team-high 18 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Amanda Tiller added 17. Phillips also earned 55 assists in the five-set match.
Three Wildcats recorded double figures in kills. Mara Mordini led Davidson with 19 kills and a match-high 28 digs. Five other Wildcat players registered double-figure digs. Setter Erica Schwartz topped both squads with 58 assists.
The Deacons, who fall to 10-3 overall and 2-1 in ACC play, return home to host Georgia Tech October 4. Match time is set for 7:00 pm at Reynolds Gym.
