Women's Tennis Individuals Advance at Riviera All-American Tournament

Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Wake Forest women's tennis players Bea Bielik (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Janet Bergman (Pinehurst, N.C.) won first-round matches in both singles and doubles at the Riviera All-American Championships, held at the Riviera Tennis Club. The annual event is the first of three national collegiate championship events during the season.
Bielik, who is ranked No. 1 in the country and the top seed in the singles bracket, won her first-round match Mira Radu of Mississippi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Bergman defeated Kansas State's Alena Jecminkova 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in her first-round match on Thursday.
Bergman and Bielik also teamed up in doubles to form the second-seeded tandem in the doubles bracket, winning their first-round match over Lia Jackson and Marine Piriou of Northwestern, 8-3.
A third Deacon tennis player, Maren Haus (Brielle, N.J.) participated in a qualifying tournament for the Riviera, but lost her first-round match to Irina Tereschenko of Texas Tech, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Second-round action begins Friday morning with Bielik facing Megan Bradley and Bergman taking on Sara Walker, both of UCLA. In doubles, the Deacon duo will face Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra of Stanford.
