TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Wake Forest volleyball dropped its second consecutive ACC match Sunday afternoon versus Florida State. The Seminoles swept the Deacons 3-0, scoring 31-29, 30-22 and 30-25. With the loss Wake falls to 10-7 overall and 4-4 in the ACC. Florida State improves to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the ACC.
After wins over Virginia and Maryland and recent 2-3 loss to Duke, Wake Forest was stunned Sunday afternoon by Florida State. The Demon Deacons were held to a .316 hitting percentage while the Seminoles hit .437 as a team. Florida State out blocked Wake 11 total blocks to five. Senior Trina Maso de Moya was held to 16 kills and seven digs, while senior Margaret Davidson only registered seven kills of her own. Junior Ashlee Phillips posted 43 assists to lead the Deacon offense.
Sophomore Jessica Hauff stepped up to contribute eight kills and four digs and freshman Kim Stern tallied nine kills as well. But despite the effort of Wake underclassmen, the Seminoles prevailed.
Head coach Valorie Baker was disappointed with Wake's lack of defense versus Florida State.
"Florida State played a good game and Wake Forest didn't get the job done," said Baker. "We didn't play defense. We didn't block at the level to compete in this match and therefore we didn't have the opportunity to generate offense. Individually, Trina played well defensively and freshman Kim Stern did a nice job on our right side."
For the Seminoles, Norisha Campbell recorded 11 kills for a .500 hitting percentage. Alex Sevillano recorded 15 kills and eight digs for Florida State.
Wake Forest has three matches at home this week. The Deacons host Furman on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m., Georgia Tech on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
