RALEIGH, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball defeated NC State in three games Friday night. The Deacons gave the Wolfpack their 11th straight loss of the season, dropping to 5-15 and 1-10 in the ACC. Wake improves to 13-8 overall and 6-5 in the ACC.
The Deacs took the first game 30-24 despite great blocking at the net by NC State's Sarah Ensminger and Charece Williams. Four kills from senior Trina Maso de Moya, four digs from sophomore Katy de Roeck and two service aces from sophomore Ashley Fisher helped seal the game.
Wake took the second game 30-23 after winning eight of their 30 points off of de Roeck's and senior Amber Rieg's serves, including two service aces by Rieg. Sophomore Jessica Hauff tallied three blocks and Maso de Moya had two of her own to win at the net.
The Deacons took an early 4-0 lead to win the third and final game of the match, 30-20. Junior Ashlee Phillips led Wake's offense with 35 assists. Maso de Moya totaled 12 kills and 12 digs for the Deacons. Reserves junior Amanda Tiller, freshman Tarah Shelton and Morgan Havig saw action in tonight's match.
Assistant coach Heather Kahl was pleased with the continuous momentum that the team carried throughout the match despite the continuous substitutions.
"Tonight was a great match. Everyone contributed off the bench," said Kahl. "With the changes that we made the players stayed focused and finished the match strong. This is the exactly the momentum we nee to carry us into tomorrow night's match. Ashley Fisher led the team offensively hitting .545 for the match while Katy de Roeck played a key role in our defense."
Wake Forest travels to Chapel Hill tomorrow to face the Tar Heels who are ranked no. 1 in the ACC.
