WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team went undefeated in all of its matches Saturday at the Omni Hotels Southeast Region Championships, taking place at the WFU Indoor Tennis Center. Three Demon Deacons have advanced to the round of 16 in singles, while Wake's top-seeded doubles team will appear in the semifinals of the doubles bracket.

Women's tennis players representing 28 different schools and four different states (North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee) are competing in this weekend's event for the right to advance to the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Dallas, Texas from Nov. 8-11.

Fourteen of the singles competitors and seven doubles teams competing in Omni Hotels Southeast Region Championships are currently ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings.

In singles, 10 of the 16 seeded players remain in the bracket as play resumed with second-round matches on Saturday. Wake Forest freshman Katie Martzolf, who was unseeded in the draw, defeated Jodi Kenoyer of South Carolina in three sets, 6-7(5), 6-0, 6-2. She will face 11th-seeded Sarah Witten of Kentucky on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Wake senior Maren Haus, seeded ninth, defeated Judit Trunkos of Winthrop, 6-1, 6-4 to advance to Sunday's third-round match against Majen Immink of Tennessee.

The highest seed still alive in the bracket is Wake Forest senior Janet Bergman, who is seeded second. Bergman won her second-round match on Saturday, defeating Lee Bairos of UNC, 6-4, 7-6(5) and will face another Tar Heel, Kendall Cline, on Sunday. Cline earned a spot in the bracket by winning two qualifying rounds on Thursday.

Teams also played third-round and quarterfinal matches in the doubles bracket on Saturday. The only tandem still alive for Wake Forest, top-seeded

Bergman and Bea Bielik, won both of their matches to advance to Sunday's semifinal. The Deacon duo shut out a team from UT-Martin, 8-0, before winning 8-4 over Bairos and Kate Pinchbeck of North Carolina in the quarterfinals. They will face fourth-seeded Crystal Cleveland and Alison Ojeda of Tennessee on Sunday.

Sunday's third-round singles matches begin at 9:00 a.m., with the quarterfinals immediately following at 11:30 a.m. The doubles semifinals start at 1:30 p.m. A schedule of the Wake Forest players' matches is listed below. All matches take place at the WFU Indoor Tennis Center and admission is free.
