DURHAM, NC - The Wake Forest women's soccer team fell 2-0 to ACC rival Duke on a chilly Saturday night at Koskinen Stadium. The 21st ranked Demon Deacons played the Blue Devils even in every category except for goals scored. Kasey Truman scored the game-winning goal for Duke and assisted the Blue Devils' second goal. Emily Taggart led Wake Forest with five shots, but could not get anything past Duke goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir, who earned seven saves in the shutout victory.
Truman's goal came after Sarah Pickens battled through two Demon Deacon defenders on the left side and found a wide-open Truman, who fired a shot just to the right of Wake Forest goalkeeper Erin Regan. Regan got a piece of the ball, but it dribbled past her for the score.
Casey McCluskey added an insurance goal for Duke with just under 20 minutes to play, which came off a pass from Truman, giving the Blue Devils the senior day victory and a high note for their final home game of the season.
Duke improves to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the ACC with the win. Wake Forest falls to 8-6-1 overall and 3-3 in the ACC with the loss. The Demon Deacons will return home to host Liberty in their final regular season home game, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 7:00 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
