Deacons Host First Two Rounds of the Big Dance
Wake Forest (13-5-2) received a first-round bye in the 2001 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament and will host a three-team regional at Spry Stadium that also includes American and Ohio State. On Sunday afternoon, the Demon Deacons will face the winner of Friday's first round game. The Deacons own the all-time series against the Buckeyes but haven't played each other since 1988. American won the only meeting in the series in 1987.
All-America Candidate Jeremiah White Leads The ACC in Scoring
Despite being shutout in the ACC Tournament, sophomore Jeremiah White is still the ACC's leading scorer with 15 goals in 18 games, a total of 37 points. He is shooting to become the first Deacon to lead the ACC in scoring since Mark Erwin in 1983. He ranks fifth in the nation in scoring and goals with 2.43 points and 1.00 goals per game.
Deacons In the NCAA Tournament
Wake Forest returns to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons and the sixth time overall. The Deacons last appeared in the postseason in 1999, advancing to the Sweet 16 by winning its first round game at Spry Stadium over VCU. Wake was eliminated in the second round by Furman at home. Wake Forest is 2-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
You Can Go Home Again
After three straight games in Clemson to close out the regular season, the Deacons are happy to return to th e friendly confines of Spry Stadium where they currently own a 10-game winning streak. The team's last loss at home came on Sept. 8, the home opener.

A second team all-conference selection last year ... among the ACC's leaders with seven assists ... scored Wake Forest's game-winning goal against North Carolina and the game-tying goal against Duke in the ACC Tourney ... the vocal leader of the Demon Deacons ... has been Wake Forest's captain since his sophomore season.

Deacons Win North Carolina State Championship
With a 9-0-1 record against teams located in North Carolina, Wake Forest won the unofficial state championship. The nine wins came against UNC, Duke, NC State, Davidson, Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, High Point, Gardner-Webb and Greensboro College with a tie against Duke.
Previewing American
The Eagles come to Spry Stadium on a six-game unbeaten streak. They earned an automatic bid to the tourney after edging Holy Cross on penalty kicks on the Crusaders' home field. American and Wake Forest played several common opponents in 2001 including Virginia, Maryland, Old Dominion and George Mason. The Eagles were defeated by all four of those teams. Wake Forest beat ODU and GMU while tying the Terrapins and losing to UVa twice.
Previewing Ohio State
Wake Forest knows all about the Buckeyes' leading scorer, Andy Rosenband (14 points). "Rosie" played his first two seasons for the Demon Deacons, mainly in a reserve role. As a sophomore, Rosenband scored three goals and one assist in 13 games. The Buckeyes enter the NCAA Tournament with a 10-6-2 mark. They finished sixth in the Big Ten with a 1-5-1 record. Their most impressive wins came against Creighton (4-1) and St. John's (3-2 ot).
